Online reporting
You can report some things to us online. Please note the only type of online reports we accept are for:
- a truck breaching a load limit sign in a street
- misuse of primary producer plates
- minor defects on trucks you witness driving around
- B-doubles or other larger combinations operating off the network without a permit (e.g. off route and using a residential street as a shortcut)
- load shedding.
To report one of these issues, click on the relevant button below for further information and access to our online reporting form.
You cannot use this form to report other issues. If you are reporting multiple issues that include those that cannot be reported online, you must call us to report all issues together.
If you are certain that the issue you are reporting falls within our scope and you do not wish to complete an online report,
Phone the Heavy Vehicle Confidential Reporting Line on 1800 931 785
We are open Monday to Friday between 7am and 4.30pm (AEST)
Note: We cannot provide feedback or the status of any report made to us. The information you provide will be triaged and risk-assessed to determine the level of urgency and the nature of action required. Outcomes may be education, compliance action (defect, infringement or prosecution), held for intelligence purposes or a warning.
The Heavy Vehicle Confidential Reporting Line (HVCRL) is a secure, national, confidential telephone service for participants in the heavy vehicle industry and its supply chain to report safety issues relating to procedures, practices or conditions in the heavy vehicle transport industry and its supply chain that might endanger the safety of a heavy vehicle driver, their passengers, other road users or the community.
The HVCRL operating hours are from 7.00am to 4.30pm (AEST) Monday to Friday. Calls are free from any landline in Australia and some mobile providers. You can check with your mobile provider whether you’ll be charged for this call.
Note: If you see something that poses an immediate safety risk, call the police on call 000 ('triple zero'). For example, this could be a traffic crash involving a heavy vehicle, a heavy vehicle losing its load or swerving across the road.
How can I be sure my information will be kept confidential?
Your call will be answered by a member of the NHVR’s specialist HVCRL Team, who will assess the information you provide to make sure it meets the criteria of the HVCRL. They will manage the information you provide in a way that protects your identity and ensures confidentiality in compliance with applicable laws, policies and agreements concerning information security.
You may be encouraged to provide some personal contact details if we need to call back and clarify any information, but you can request that these are not made available outside the NHVR’s HVCRL Unit.
