The National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) was a national, voluntary but formal process for recognising operators who have appropriate and effective safety management systems in place.
NHVAS modules included:
- Mass Management
- Maintenance Management
- Fatigue Management (Basic or Advanced).
How did it work?
Operators with safety management systems in place applied for accreditation under their chosen module(s). An entry audit undertaken by an NHVAS auditor was required to demonstrate that there was a system in place, and subsequent audits were required to demonstrate that the system was working effectively.
