National Roadworthiness Survey 2024
The NHVR concluded the third iteration of the National Roadworthiness Survey (NRS) in 2024. The survey ran for approximately 12 weeks across all Australian states and territories.
The NRS provides a health check of Australia’s heavy vehicle fleet, letting the NHVR monitor the mechanical health of the heavy vehicle fleet and understand how compliant it is. The information collected from the survey allows us to determine where the NHVR and industry are making improvements in vehicle safety, or where more focus may be needed.

Previous surveys
In 2016 the NHVR conducted the first National Roadworthiness Survey (NRS 2016), inspecting 7,130 vehicles across all states and territories, except Western Australia.
In 2021 we continued to monitor the fleet by conducting the second National Roadworthiness Survey (NRS 2021), across all Australian states in regional and metropolitan areas. Each vehicle received a comprehensive visual and mechanical inspection, undertaken using the National Heavy Vehicle Inspection Manual (NHVIM).
