Industry voices lead NHVR campaign to support HVNL readiness

Truck drivers, operators and auditors from across Australia are taking centre stage in the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) latest campaign, helping prepare industry for the biggest changes to the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) in more than a decade.

NHVR Executive Director of Corporate Affairs Michelle Tayler said the campaign provides practical, easy-to-understand information about the amended HVNL – set to commence 1 August this year - with trusted voices from across the sector helping explain what’s changing, why it matters and where to go for support.

"When it comes to understanding change, the message lands best when it comes from those who understand the challenges and opportunities these changes bring,” Ms Tayler said.

"That’s why we’ve put trusted industry representatives at the heart of this campaign, delivering straightforward messages about the changes coming from 1 August.

"And the main message is simple: stay safe, stay compliant."

Ms Tayler said the campaign delivers tailored content for operators, drivers, road managers, auditors, industry associations and the broader community, recognising that different changes affect different parts of the heavy vehicle industry and supply chain.

"The amended HVNL introduces a range of important reforms, including a new Heavy Vehicle Accreditation scheme and Unfit to Drive duty, changes to Mass, Dimension and Loading requirements and updates to the Written Work Diary," she said.

"Not every change is relevant to every part of industry, so we've focused on cutting through the complexity and making it easy for each audience understand the changes most relevant to them."

Ms Tayler said campaign was brought to life with the help of the NHVR’s industry partners, including:

  • ACFS Port Logistics
  • Nolan’s Interstate Transport
  • Followmont Transport
  • Heidelberg Materials
  • CJC Logistics Compliance

“The campaign is made by industry, for industry,” she said.

“It complements the extensive work already underway across the organisation to support implementation of the amended law and is one part of a much broader effort to support industry readiness ahead of commencement.

"The NHVR has been working closely with industry throughout the reform process to help build understanding of what the changes mean in day-to-day operations.

"From online information sessions and direct engagement with industry, to the rollout of new guidance material and operational resources, our focus has been on giving industry the support needed to transition smoothly to the amended law.

"Ultimately, this is about making sure industry is ready, informed and confident ahead of 1 August."

The campaign will roll out nationally across NHVR social media platforms, digital and billboard advertising and radio.
