As part of the West Gate Tunnel Project, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) Victoria will introduce 24/7 No-Truck Zones on six roads in Melbourne’s Inner West.
What you need to know
- No-Truck Zones will apply 24/7 on six roads in Melbourne’s Inner West.
- Cameras will monitor the No-Truck Zones 24/7.
- Restricted vehicle and journey types will be required to use alternative freight routes.
- Exemptions are available and are to be submitted to DTP Victoria.
Exemptions
Trucks that have an origin or destination within a No-Truck Zone will only be allowed to enter for one of these purposes:
- a delivery to or from a place within a No-Truck Zone
- performing construction or maintenance work within a No-Truck Zone
- vehicle repairs or sales within a No-Truck Zone
- driving to or from a garaged address within a No-Truck Zone.
These types of heavy vehicles will still be permitted in No-Truck Zones:
- buses
- 2-axle truck that is not transporting a shipping container
- tow trucks
- concrete trucks (including concrete pump trucks)
- waste disposal trucks
- motor homes, emergency and police vehicles considered heavy vehicles.

The NHVR’s role
- Assessing exemption applications received via DTP Victoria.
- Reviewing camera detections from prescribed No-Truck Zone cameras.
- Taking appropriate regulatory action for identified non-compliance.
